A LITTLE ABOUT US

Hi, Friends! Welcome to our page. We are a travel family of four-Sean, Lorena, Mireya, & Gabriela. We are from Norman, Oklahoma-USA. Currently we are on a big adventure around the world in search of where it is we want to call home. Staying in each location we visit for at least a month to truly experience what life would be like in that part of the globe.

We are currently at our 1st location in Asia and will be here for roughly 9 months traveling around the continent

Food! We love you!! Trying new things on this big adventure around the world is probably one of the things we love best about traveling. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We went to our first Hawker center in Singapore and it was everything we dreamed it would be. Great local foods at reasonable prices!! We visited one in Chinatown called Maxwell food center. We got several plates to try and split between the three of us and spent around $40 Singapore dollars (around $30 USD) and we loved it all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What’s your favorite food?

Happy Birthday Gaby!! We are so very happy that we were chosen to be your parents. Currently you are super into all things Harry Potter, The Wild Krafts, swimming, inventing, science, and hiking. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For your birthday you didn’t ask for much but did ask that anything we get you have something to do with Harry Potter and then you also asked for a flying machine you could strap to your back that has rockets and wings so you could fly like a bird in the sky, and this is just one of the many reasons we love you so very much.

Singapore you are pretty amazing!! From your architecture to your food courts we had a blast and can not wait to explore all the amazing things you have to offer this month. Our first family pic in Asia that wasn’t a selfie and it almost didn’t happen. It’s so hot here that we haven’t wanted to mess with getting the tripod out and setting up the photo. Luckily a sweet lady at this restaurant saw me taking photos of Sean and Gaby asked me if I wanted to be in the photo. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yes, you know what, I do actually. Thank you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do you take family photos or are you always behind the camera?

“Sean, take a picture of me right here by this rice field” “Sean, take a picture of me right here just outside the front door of our fancy Airbnb” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I mean let’s keep it real right. Most of the images you see on social media or google show you nothing but the best of whatever it is they want to show you. Bali for example-white sand beaches, rice fields, and birds nest big enough for a group but they don’t show you what the majority of the place is truly like and they can never portray the feelings you have in those places. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One persons paradise is another persons nightmare. We had high hopes when we arrived in Indonesia (thanks-Eat, Pray, Love) however the reality of what life is truly like there is tough-for what we are doing and the majority of people living there. Simple things like walking down the street, buying groceries, and just enjoying being outside were difficult on so many levels. The majority of our time there felt stressful and sad due to all the wild dogs, trash, smoke, traffic, and inadequate infrastructure. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yes you can spend thousands and stay in a fancy hotel and never see any of the real Bali or pop into just about any restaurant and grab a quick bite in a very instagramable place but as soon as you step outside that door the reality is what you see in the second picture and that was hard for us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This was the first location we have visited that I found it hard to take out my camera. It all either felt really fake or like I was being disrespectful for capturing the truth. That is why we haven’t posted a ton on our time in Bali. However, we feel it’s important to share with you guys. We try our hardest to be environmentally friendly in our everyday lives but it is going to take all of us to make a difference. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So tell me this-do you want the truth or just the pretty photos?

This past month has been the toughest one we have had so far since starting this big adventure of ours and today I just want to take a moment to thank this little girl of ours. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Gaby, thank you for being the strong, adaptable, funny, kind, and genuine little human that you are. You have done so very awesome on this big adventure of ours and there isn’t a day that goes by that you don’t do or say something that amazes me. You are wise beyond your years and I look up to you in so many ways, while still trying my hardest to be someone you can look up to too. You see the beauty in all things including this tiger statue-“Mom!! Look at that beautiful statue!! They did such a wonderful job on it didn’t they!” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I love that you acknowledge someone else hard work and appreciate it. I hope this is something that sticks with you forever. I love that you also question this big world of ours and that you care about it so much-never let that passion die. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I am happy that you are learning first hand to be grateful for all things because not all people have it as easy as some and that you are embracing all the challenges that come with full time travel. Like learning to live with less, having to make new friends every month while still maintaining the friendships you had back home, and learning languages (mainly hello & thank you).
